Mumbai News Live Updates: A case has been registered against 110 people after they staged a protest outside a police station in Navi Mumbai over a prolonged power outage in their locality, an official said on Tuesday.

Angry locals staged an agitation outside the Rabale police station late on Saturday and continued till the early hours of Sunday, following a three-day power failure, the official said.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against 110 people, of whom 13 have been identified, he said, adding that a probe is underway, and no arrests have been made so far.

According to the FIR, four of the main accused circulated WhatsApp messages inciting others to gather unlawfully outside the police station, and the group then allegedly resorted to road blockade and slogan-shouting in protest against the power outage.

The MNS, however, clarified that its chief, Raj Thackeray, alone will decide the party’s stand. “The party chief will put forth its position and no one else. In future, only we will state our stance,” said MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande, dismissing the Sena (UBT) leader’s remark. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has launched Whatsapp-based ticketing for commuters of Metro Line 3, also known as Aqua Line, between Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the north-western part of the metropolis.

Passengers will have to simply send "Hi" to ‪+91 98730 16836‬ or scan the QR code displayed at stations to generate QR based Whatsapp tickets instantly through a simple conversational interface, MMRC said in a release issued on Monday.

"The service allows commuters to generate up to six QR tickets in one transaction, supports multiple payment options, and eliminates paper tickets, thereby promoting sustainable mobility. The UPI-based payments will have no additional fee, while minimal charges will be applicable for card transactions," it said.

This initiative is part of MMRC's commitment to offering seamless, efficient, and sustainable travel experiences to Mumbai's citizens, MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide said. (PTI)

Fans from across the country gathered in legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar's birthplace Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh on Monday to mark his 38th death anniversary. Among those who attended was 70-year-old Dwarakadas Soni from Rajkot in neighbouring Gujarat who told PTI he had attended Kumar's funeral here as well (in 1987).

"When Kishore Kumar was alive, I used to come to Khandwa hoping to meet him. During the cremation, fans had formed a queue stretching for several kilometres for a last glimpse. Visiting Kishore Kumar's memorial in Khandwa makes us feel as if he is still in our midst," Soni said before humming the timeless "Koi humdum na raha, koi sahara na raha" number.

Members of Kishore Prerna Manch, a local fan organisation, offered milk-jalebi, a delicacy the singer greatly enjoyed in Khandwa, at the memorial. Kumar would often speak about "doodh-jalebi khayenge, Khandwa mein bas jayenge" during his stay in Mumbai. Due to this deep attachment, he was cremated in Khandwa following his death in the metropolis.

Born on August 4, 1929, in Khandwa, Kishore Kumar's real name was Abhas Kumar Ganguly. He studied in Christian College, Indore, between 1946 and 1948 before leaving for Mumbai to pursue a career in films. (PTI)

Mumbai News Live Updates: The MNS wants the Congress should be taken along, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday said, indicating that the Raj Thackeray-led party could be a part of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Raut's remarks came amid a buzz of cousins Raj Thackeray and Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray joining hands for the upcoming local body polls in the state, though it is still unclear if the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) head will be part of the larger Opposition alliance.

Responding to a question on whether Raj Thackeray is ready to be part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Raut told reporters, "Even Raj Thackeray desires that the Congress, which is a constituent of the MVA, should be taken along. This is his stand." "But this does not mean any decision has been taken on this," the Rajya Sabha member stressed.

Raut said he has spoken to AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on "certain issues" and will also talk to Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Uddhav Thackeray will also talk to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, he said.

A section of state Congress leaders has, however, opposed any move to join hands with the MNS, especially ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly polls.

Everyone has a place in state politics. The way Shiv Sena (UBT) has, MNS also has a place, so does Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) and the Left parties, Raut said.

"For instance, our stand is that Congress should be part of the all-party delegation. Even Raj Thackeray is of the same opinion," Raut said.

He was referring to a delegation of Opposition parties comprising Raj, Uddhav and Pawar that will meet the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra on Tuesday.

Raj and Uddhav have met at least six times in the last few months.

Once estranged, they appear to have reconciled after the drubbing their parties received in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS have not yet announced an alliance for the civic polls, though their leaders have confirmed that it is on the cards.

Mumbai News Live Updates: A major fire destroyed nearly 20 units that stored automobile spare parts in Mumbai’s Kurla West early Monday. Mumbai Fire Brigade officials said no injuries were reported in the fire.

The fire was reported at 2.42 am near the gurdwara in Kapadia Nagar along the CST Road in Kurla West. The fire was declared level II at 2.57 am due to its high intensity.

According to officials, the flames spread through approximately 15-20 shops tucked away in several ground- and partly ground-plus-one-storey structures in the area. They said the fire remained confined to a wide stock of automobile spare parts, tyres, electrical wiring and installation, scrap material, and other items stored in the scrapyard shop, spanning over 3,000 square feet.

Mumbai News Live Updates: The Mumbai Congress on Monday claimed the ruling BJP has deliberately not named the Science Centre Metro station on Line 3 here after the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

In a post on X, Mumbai Congress' chief spokesperson, Sachin Sawant, further claimed that Nehru's contribution is so monumental and unshakable that no matter how much the BJP despises him or attempts to malign his legacy, such efforts will remain as futile as spitting at the sky.

The entire country knows that the area in Worli (where the Metro station is located) is identified by the name Nehru Science Centre, he said.

Yet, because the "BJP suffers from an allergy to the name Nehru", they have deliberately omitted it and named the Metro station merely as Science Centre, Sawant alleged.

"This is highly objectionable and a deep insult to the memory of former Prime Minister and world icon, Bharat Ratna Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji, whose vision laid the foundations of India's scientific temper, industrial progress, and modern outlook," he said.

"Once again, this act exposes the petty, intolerant, and vindictive mindset of the BJP," Sawant charged.

They earlier changed the name of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in Delhi to Prime Ministers' Museum, and replaced Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) with My Bharat, he said.

"We strongly demand that the name of India's first Prime Minister be reinstated at the Worli Metro Station. The world is watching how India's great leaders and founding fathers are being treated. The BJP's warped mindset is not only erasing history but also tarnishing the dignity and global image of our nation. We unequivocally condemn this disgraceful act," he added.
