The rakes of Metro Line One that traverses between Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar are being overhauled after nine years of service.
As per the Mumbai Metro One, these rakes have completed travelling 6 lakh kilometres and are due for overhaul.
The 16 rakes have been procured from China’s M/s. Crrc Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. and a team of experts have come to Mumbai to assist in the overhauling work.
As per the Metro One officials, overhauling of three rakes has been completed. The work began in March this year and on an average, 25 days are required to overhaul one rake, said the official.
Meanwhile, the operator informed that the number of services has not been reduced due to this work. Of 16 trains, 13-14 trains are generally operated to make 380 trips in a day and serve an average four lakh ridership daily.
During the peak hours, which is from 8.30 am to 10.30 am, and 6 pm to 9 pm, the Metro One services run every four minutes. During non-peak hours, the services are available at a gap of six to eight minutes, as per Metro One authorities.
