Mumbai is gearing up for a mega clean-up drive on Sunday, as part of the Union government’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the cleanliness drive will be carried out in as many as 178 different locations in the city on October 1, a day ahead of Gandhi Jayanti.
These 178 spots include various beaches, markets, religious sites, railway stations and bus stops. The drive will be held between 10 am and 11 am. Civic officials said that each of the 24 assistant Municipal Commissioners in Mumbai will be assigned coordination duties in five to seven locations.
“In the campaign, besides educating the citizens about the importance of cleanliness, the BMC will also give out messages related to waste sorting, recycling and plan out alternative for single usage plastic,” said an official.
Local residents can visit the swachhatahiseva.com website, where a list of all the 178 spots is available.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is an accelerated nationwide cleaning campaign that was launched to mobilise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to provide sustainable sanitation services for all citizens.
