The level II fire was reported on the 11th and 12th floors of the Dhavalgiri building near Grant Road’s H&M Mall around 9.35 am and was doused by 11.10 am.
According to senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the fire was confined to objects on duplex flats, 1201 and 1301, on the 12th and 13th floors.
“Fire remained confined to electrical wiring, electrical installation, furniture, split AC units, false ceiling, documents, clothes, treadmill and other gym equipment among other objects on 1201 and 1301 duplex flats,” a civic report stated.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade deployed eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers and one highrise van at the site. Several people stranded on the building’s 21st and 22nd floors were rescued by the firemen and taken to the terrace, while eight people trapped on the 15th floor were rescued to the terrace via the staircase.
Two small hose lines and two first aid lines of the building’s inbuilt fire fighting system were also in operation, officials said.
