Mumbai: Four arrested for kidnapping teen from Mazgaon

The Byculla police Thursday arrested four persons for allegedly kidnapping a 19-year-old from outside his shop in Mazgaon on Sunday.

Of the four arrested, one is a friend of the victim and as per police, the brain behind the conspiracy to kidnap the 19-year-old.

Police have recovered from them the Skoda vehicle that the victim’s family had to give to ensure his safety.

According to Byculla police, the incident took place Sunday when the complainant was at his shop in Parab chowk area of Mazgaon.

The arrested accused Anup Singh along with Mastan Shaikh and Talha Malia reached the shop in a Xylo car that had a CBI board on it.

The accused identified themselves as CBI officers and told the complainant that they had information that he smuggled cocaine and gold and forced him in the car for questioning.

Once they crossed Mazgaon, they told the complainant that he had been kidnapped and demanded that he arrange for Rs 10 lakh if he wanted to be set free.

When the complainant told them that he would have to contact his father to raise the amount, they told him to call one of his friends instead.

The complainant then called up his friend Talha Qureshi, who, as it later turned out, was also part of the conspiracy, an officer said.

Qureshi later approached the complainant’s father and told him that he had paid Rs 10 lakh to free the complainant.

In exchange for the money he paid, Qureshi allegedly took the Skoda vehicle that was used by the family.

Soon, the Byculla police was informed about the incident and they began their probe.

On questioning Qureshi, the police suspected that something was amiss.

On sustained interrogation, Qureshi confessed to be involved in the kidnapping and led the police to the three other accused.

“Qureshi had told the other three accused that the victim had been making lot of money of late as his shop was doing well. That is when they decided to kidnap him as they were in need of money,” an officer said.

The police also recovered the Skoda vehilce owned by the complainant’s family and the Xylo vehicle in which the
