While attending proceedings in the Malegaon 2008 blast case last week, BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur was informed by a lawyer that she would have to appear in court on October 3, due to long weekend. She asked why it was an off on Monday and was told that it was Gandhi Jayanti. Thakur then wondered if Gandhi Jayanti was a holiday. A few years ago, Thakur’s comments calling Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a “patriot” had led to a furore, forcing her to apologise.
CM Camp Rumblings
Protesting against the induction of Ajit Pawar camp into the state government, Kiran Samant, brother of Industries Minister and Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant, changed his WhatsApp display photo to the election symbol of former CM Uddhav Thackeray’s party. Kiran is known to be one of the aspirants for Lok Sabha from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency, which is held by Thackeray group’s Vinayak Raut. Induction of Ajit Pawar into the state government seems to have irked many within the CM Eknath Shinde camp and the present outburst is an indication.
YouTube Battle
YouTubers are the flavour of the season for both the factions of the Shiv Sena. Days after Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackreray went for a spin across Mumbai with a popular YouTube presenter, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son and Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde too invited another YouTube channel for a special Sunday brunch at Varsha — the official residence of the CM. Shindes who are controlling the administration are on a mission to overpower Thackerays with resourceful media strategy as well.
