Mahayuti’s populist women scheme promising Rs 1,500 monthly to women has set a race among its three constituents — BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP. To take the credit and reassert its distinct identity, the BJP is calling it Ladki Bahin Yojna, while the Shiv Sena has been calling it Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahin Yojna and the NCP terms it Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojna. With the Rakshabandhan festival falling next week, the parties have already planned to maximise its outreach to “sisters”.

Danve For RS

Former Union minister Raosaheb Danve is BJP’s front runner for Rajya Sabha seat in Maharashtra. Senior leader of the party who lost the Lok Sabha seat from Jalna constituency in 2024 is being considered for RS, as per party insiders. There are two seats in Rajya Sabha from BJP’s quota that fell vacant after Piyush Goyal and Udayan Raje Bhosale got elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North and Satara respectively.

Hogging The Limelight

When it comes to limelight CM Eknath Shinde seems to have beaten his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. At a book launch function this week in Thane, Ajit Pawar said in a lighter vein, “When I am in my native place Baramati, I set out to my field at 6 am. But then I don’t have as many fans like Shinde whose every visit to a farm in Satara makes for a picture in the media.”

Walking On Eggshells

The corridors of power are abuzz with whispers about a bureaucrat’s penchant for wielding the stick. It is said that this official has made it a habit to bombard colleagues and juniors with show-cause notices and suspension threats over trivial matters. The atmosphere has turned stifling, with employees walking on eggshells, never knowing when they will be the next target.

Practice Draws DGP’s Ire

The practice followed by IPS officers of taking their orderly or staff with them wherever they are transferred has come under fire from state DGP Rashmi Shukla. A circular issued by the DGP’s office has warned of action in case the practise continues. It also directed those who had taken their staff along to send them back in a few days failing which action would be taken.
