In the recent drug bust wherein police arrested an alleged supplier Lalit Patil, several Opposition leaders are alleging the involvement of two cabinet ministers of the Maharashtra government with the ministers denying any links. What has, however, not come to the fore, are names of a few senior police officers perceived to be close to Patil, who are soon likely to face the heat.

The all-powerful PAs

A district collector from Western Maharashtra held a meeting of PAs of MLAs from the district along with department heads in the collectorate and introduced the PAs officially to all administrative heads. While the unconstitutional position of PAs seems to be getting more and more powerful, the bureaucracy is experiencing a growing sense of discomfort. Apart from the audacity of PAs to call IAS officials on behalf of elected representatives, the senior IAS lobby is also worried about young bureaucrats acquiescing to politicians.

There was a strong buzz about a well-connected builder in Thane, known to be close to a powerful Thane politician, facing a raid by the central agencies on Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, however, it is believed that the matter had been ‘resolved’ leaving many wondering about what had really transpired.
