The body of a 55-year-old garment businessman who jumped from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) was recovered from the Arabian Sea on Tuesday following a search operation involving the Navy and Indian Coast Guard.

The search to find Tikam Makhija, a Khar resident, was not found on Monday, following which the search was called off. An official said that Navy divers found his body on Tuesday after which the family identified it.

“A rescue team was rushed to the spot on a boat and the body was brought to the Chaityabhoomi jetty,” the official said. An accidental death report was filed at the Shivaji Park police station. According to police, Makhija drove to the BWSL, parked his car there and jumped into the sea early Monday. He was said to be disturbed after a bike accident led to severe head injuries a few months ago.

The Mumbai police and fire brigade roped in the Navy, Indian Coast Guard and local fishermen to launch a search for Makhija.
