According to the official website of EWS, the air quality was recorded to be in the ‘poor’ category in Nandadeep Garden-Bandra Traffic Junction (266), Nerul Navi Mumbai (256), Bandra Kurla Complex (242), Chembur-TISS (232), Sanpada Navi Mumbai (228), IMD Colaba (226), Shivaji Nagar (216), Bapista Garden Mazagaon (206), Fire Station Malad West (205), BMC Shastri Garden Worli (203).
This comes a day after AQI dipped to ‘very poor’ category, showing the highest reading of 341 at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Colaba station.
Other areas across Mumbai recorded ‘moderate’ air quality index early morning. Among the ‘moderately polluted’ zones were Byculla (171), Powai (161), CBD Belapur (158), Mulund West (158), Mindspace Malad West (157), Bhayandar West (150), Chembur (148), Kalamboli Navi Mumbai (119), Kherwadi Bandra East (118), Kandivali East and Kandivali West (105),
The AQI significantly improved in Worli (94), Sion (89), Vasai West (75), and Mahape Navi Mumbai (75), Tondare0Taloja (63), along with other few places in Mumbai two days after Diwali.
This improvement could possibly be due to rainfall activity in several parts of Mumbai Tuesday evening, including thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The AQI reading is categorised as Good (0-50), Satisfactory (51-100), Moderately Polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500). Higher the AQI reading, the unhealthier it is to breathe.
Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to witness partly cloudy skies on Wednesday, according to the forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the IMD, rainfall will continue in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane with the weather bureau forecasting light to moderate rainfall alongside thunderstorm activity until at least October 25.
In the neighbouring districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri, the IMD has sounded a ‘yellow’ alert until Saturday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 25 degrees Celsius.
