Mumbai AQI remains ‘moderate’; Chembur, Bandra record worst air quality

Mumbai Air Quality Index (AQI) Level Today, 14 October 2025: The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai remained in the ‘moderate’ category on Wednesday morning, with a small dip in the reading recorded in the early hours of the day. The AQI in Mumbai came down from 143 to 138 on Wednesday morning, according to the Air Quality Early Warning System at 5:30 am.

The AQI in Mumbai has been on a steady rise after the monsoon season subsided, as per the detailed analysis of Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 and PM 10. According to past trends, the air quality in Mumbai is likely to take a steep dip in the coming month as winter approaches and wind patterns slow down.

While the average AQI in Mumbai settled at 138 on Wednesday morning, the highest AQI was recorded in Chembur and Bandra. Chembur recorded an AQI of 229 while Bandra recorded an AQI of 226, both in the ‘poor’ category.

In other areas across Mumbai, the AQI was recorded to be in the ‘moderate’ or ‘satisfactory’ category.

The AQI reading is categorised as Good (0-50), Satisfactory (51-100), Moderately Polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500). Higher the AQI reading, the unhealthier it is to breathe.

Pune air quality today

The air quality index in Pune was also recorded in the ‘moderate’ category, at 129, slightly lower than yesterday. While the air quality is slightly worse than yesterday, it is lower than the average AQI of Maharashtra on Wednesday. Pune also recorded a significant dip in temperature in the morning, at 19 degrees Celsius at around 6 am.

Mumbai, after a recording irregular and heavy rainfall for the last few weeks, is expected to witness clear skies today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heat warning for Mumbai, with the maximum temperature recorded at 32 degrees Celsius, and minimum temperature recorded at 27 degrees Celsius.
