THE MUMBAI police investigating the case of a Versova resident who was abducted by six persons posing as cops have found two other victims who were duped in a similar manner.
While the statements of the two victims have been recorded by the police, they suspect more people may have been duped in a similar manner.
On Thursday, the crime branch arrested an auto driver in the case and seized one of the autos which was used in the abduction. With the latest arrest, the total number of arrests have now gone up to five.
Crime branch (unit IX) in charge Daya Nayak said, ” We have arrested a fifth person in the case identified as Pankaj Pal (30), a Goregaon resident who was driving one of the autos. We have also seized the auto in which the abduction took place and are looking for the second auto.”
An officer said that so far they have been approached by two more persons who were duped by the accused in a similar fashion. The police are also investigating the role of a police constable attached to a nearby police commissionerate in connection with the case.
The Mumbai Crime Branch on Sunday, busted the gang that allegedly abducted a 27-year-old Andheri resident last month by posing as cops, and extorting Rs 5.3 lakhs from him on the pretext of “not booking him in a drugs case”.
