Proposed Thane-Padgha highway: MMRDA begins process of appointing consultant to prepare DPR

As per the MMRDA, the new elevated highway will act as a connector to the upcoming Samruddhi Mahamarg considering the rising traffic

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore for a proposed 30-km elevated highway project between Thane and Padgha, officials said on Tuesday.

In a comprehensive transport study from October 2021, the elevated highway was proposed in order to decongest the National Highway-3, which sees a large number of container and other big commercial vehicles plying on it.

Currently, if travellers want to commute from Kalyan and Dombivali to Thane city, they have to use NH-3 via Rajnoli Junction, which leads to huge traffic congestions. The proposed elevated Highway is essential to provide relief to commuters.

As per the MMRDA, given the rising traffic, the new elevated highway will act as a connector to the forthcoming Samruddhi Mahamarg, connecting Nagpur to Thane by this year.

Currently, this expressway is open only up to Bharvir in Igatpuri from Nagpur. The elevated highway will also provide relief to commuters using the existing Bhiwandi Bypass road which has several warehouses.
