More than 1,000 employees of Hindustan Antibiotics (HA), Pimpri, have a reason to raise a toast as the public sector unit looks all set to go on the revival path. Union Minister of State for Chemical, Fertilisers and Drug Hansraj Ahir on Tuesday revealed that HA will get a rehabilitation package of Rs 530 crore.
Ahir made the announcement while speaking to journalists in New Delhi on Tuesday. Ahir said along with HA, his ministry is also keen to revive the Nagpur-based Maharashtra Antibiotics which has been shut for long and is the sister concern of HA. “We have put up a revival proposal of Rs 530 crore from the Union cabinet for approval,” Ahir told journalists.
Except for the agriculture unit, all units of the PSU have been shut down with employees left with little to do. The PSU has been stalled for years. It has no money to even pay salaries to its staff. “In this scenario, the news coming from Delhi is highly encouraging. We hope the Union cabinet approves the proposal without any further delay,” said HA Majdoor Sangh general secretary Sunil Pataskar.
Pataskar said HA has not received any intimation about the information shared by the minister in Delhi. “However, since it has been reported, we assume that things have sped up and HA is now going to be certainly revived,” he said. Pataskar said HA needs Rs 526 crore to pay its dues, salaries and working capital.
