Man ‘pushes down colleague from building’ for speaking loudly over phone, held for murder: Mumbai police

A 25-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai on Monday for allegedly killing his 30-year-old colleague by pushing him down from the second floor of a building during a brawl over speaking loudly over the phone, police said.

The accused Afsar Zameeruddin Alam and his colleague Jitendra Chauhan were workers at an under-construction building in Sai Nagar opposite Bhatia school in Kandivali (West).

They stay at a room on the second floor of the building meant for workers.

On Sunday night, Chauhan, a carpenter, was speaking loudly during a phone call, police said. This made Alam angry as he was watching an IPL match on his mobile phone. He had an argument with Chauhan that escalated into a brawl during which Alam allegedly pushed Chauhan, police said.

Chauhan fell from the second floor to the basement parking lot and suffered a serious head injury, his friend Manoj said in the FIR.

Other workers present at the spot rushed Chauhan to Shatabdi Hospital where he died during treatment Monday.

On Manoj’s statement, the Kandivali police registered a case of murder under Section 103 (1) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Alam.

He has been remanded in police custody by the court, said a police officer from the Kandivali police.
