NEARLY FOUR years since the project work commenced, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) opened the elevated forest walkway at Mumbai’s Malabar hill for the public on Sunday. As visitors flocked to the much-anticipated nature trail, the civic body said the nature trail will cater to only 200 people at a time with the BMC stating that visitors can book one-hour slots through the online portal.

On Sunday morning, cabinet minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha–who is also the local legislator from Malabar Hill–inaugurated the project alongside senior civic officials including the BMC administrator Bhushan Gagrani. Inspired by Singapore’s elevated forest walkways also known as ‘nature trails’, the elevated walkway is 482 metres long and 2.2 metres wide with entry and exit points at Siri Road.

Aimed to boost tourism, it offers visitors a unique experience of walking through the lush greens of Malabar Hills, while enjoying the unhindered view of the cityscape and the Girgaon Chowpatty.

In a bid to regulate overcrowding, the civic body has introduced an online ticketing system with the BMC on Sunday stating that the entry will be capped at 200 persons at a time. According to officials, the civic body will be allotting a one-hour slot for visitors, who can book their visit on the portal on: https://naturetrail.mcgm.gov.in/.

“A barcode will be generated on the online ticket, following the registration, to regulate the entry and exit. Furthermore, an access control system has also been introduced to regulate the number of tourists,” said a civic bulletin.

To monitor the number of visitors, an entry fee of Rs 25 will be levied upon visitors while foreign citizens will be charged Rs 100.
