WITH UNION minister Narayan Rane being fielded from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat, which was claimed by CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, sources in the Sena said that sacrificing the Ratnagiri Sindhudurg seat has resolved the deadlock in at least three seats- Nashik, Palghar and Mumbai South. The party insiders say that now path has been cleared for Sena to contest these three seats and they have also finalised the candidates for the same. Sources said that while the incumbents Hemant Godse and Rajendra Gavit would be the candidates from Nashik and Palghar, a recent entrant from Congress would be the candidate of the party in Mumbai South Seat.
SHIV SENA leader Deepak Kesarkar targeted NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar for being “responsible for the political turmoil” in the state and said that Pawar appointing Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister during the MVA government was inappropriate. Kesarkar alleged that it was Pawar’s agenda to dismantle Sena and that he was instrumental in all the splits faced by Sena. Stating that Pawar has often changed his stance in politics, Kesarkar alleged that Pawar played a significant role in all the 3-4 splits that Shiv Sena has seen.
Ruling NCP’s Dharashiv candidate Archana Patil had made a gaffe last week, when she said that she will not work to increase strength of the NCP as her husband is a BJP MLA. NCP chief Ajit Pawar will, however, be seen attending the nomination filing of Patil along with BJP state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Party insiders feel that with Pawar beside her, the candidate will remember that she is a candidate of the ruling NCP, irrespective of her husband’s party.
