58% in 5 years: Asset growth of 8 Maharashtra MPs contesting in first 2 phases of LS polls

An analysis of the affidavit of these MPs show that their cumulative assets which were pegged at Rs 130.08 crore in 2019 have now grown to Rs 199.41 crore, marking an increase of 53 per cent.

The wealth of eight sitting MPs, who have been renominated and will be contesting the first two phases of Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra, has seen an average increase of 53 per cent in the last five years.

In the first two phases, 13 seats will be heading for polls.

A total of eight sitting MPs have been renominated by their parties to contest on these seats. An analysis of the affidavit of these MPs show that their cumulative assets which were pegged at Rs 130.08 crore in 2019 have now grown to Rs 199.41 crore, marking an increase of 53 per cent.

The richest candidate among the sitting MPs is BJP’s Bhandara-Gondiya candidate Sunil Mendhe, who along with his family has total assets of Rs 101.98 crore.

This is an increase of 62 per cent compared to the 2019 polls — which was also his first Lok Sabha election— when he showed total assets of Rs 62.75 crore.

Among these eight sitting MPs, the one with the least wealth is BJP MP from Gadchiroli-Chimur Ashok Nete, who has assets of Rs 7.06 crore, an increase of 41 per cent over Rs 5.01 crore assets that he declared in 2019.

The MP whose wealth has increased the most is Shiv Sena UBT candidate from Parbhani Sanjay Jadhav whose assets grew by 150 per cent from Rs 4.11 cr in 2019 to Rs 10.27 CR as per his recent affidavit.

The MP whose wealth has increased the least is BJP candidate from Amravati Navneet Rana — 11 per cent rise from Rs 12.45 crore in 2019 to Rs 13.83 crore.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who is contesting from Nagpur has seen his wealth increase by 23 per cent from Rs 22.73 crore in 2019 to Rs 28.03 crore as per his recent filings.

The first lot of votes will be cast in five constituencies in Vidarbha — Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondia, Gadchiroli-Chimur and Chandrapur — on April 19.

The next to follow will be eight constituencies mainly covering Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, which will go to the polls on April 26. These include Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani.
