Just few days before the announcement of assembly polls, the Maharashtra cabinet on Monday passed over 56 decisions, from sanctioning finances to infrastructure projects worth Rs 30,000 crore and handing over 255 acres of salt pan land for Dharavi redevelopment project to be executed by the Adani group to declaring desi breed of cows as “Rajyamata” (Mother of the state).
The slew of decisions sanctioned in a cabinet meeting, which lasted for nearly two hours, also included accepting second and third report of Justice (retd) Sandeep Shinde Committee on sanctioning on finalising the protocol for issuing Kunbi-Maratha and Maratha-Kunbi certificates based on historical records. This will lead to the increase in number of Kunbi certificates being distributed to Marathas.
Last week, the cabinet had cleared around 46 decisions. According to sources, another cabinet meeting will be held this week where another set of proposals will be cleared.
The cabinet chose to rake up the Hindutva agenda as desi cows in the state have now been given the status of “Rajyamata Gaumata (Mother of the state)”. The cabinet also cleared the proposal to provide a grant of Rs 50 per day per desi cow to “gaushalas”.
An organisation called BAPS Swaminarayan which works in cultural, spiritual, cow service, anti-addiction spheres was allotted 10 acres of land in Dhule district.
The cabinet also gave its approval to acquire 255.9 acres of salt pan land in Mumbai for implementing an affordable housing scheme for the economically weaker section. In February this year, it had given its nod for a proposal to seek Mumbai’s salt pan land from the Union government for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. The cabinet also gave its approval for the implementation of an affordable rental housing scheme for ineligible slum-dwellers in Dharavi.
It also accepted a revised proposal of Rs 12,200 crore for the Thane Ring Metro project and cleared a proposal to raise Rs 15,000 crore through loans for the Thane-Borivali tunnel route. The cabinet also approved Rs 1,354 crore as a loan without interest for the construction of a tunnel from Orange Gate to Marine Drive.
The appointment of JSW Infrastructure to develop a multipurpose port, meant to handle Captive cargo and dry-bulk cargo, in Palghar’s Murbe at the cost of Rs 4,259 crore was also cleared by the cabinet.
The cabinet has also given its approval to provide concession on payment of land premium to MMRDA to speed up the slum rehabilitation scheme of Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar, Kamrajnagar. According to the ready reckoner rates of 14 hectares of land in Kurla, MMRDA will be given concession to pay premium from the sale proceeds after the completion of the project, without taking 25 per cent of the land premium in the beginning.
