‘Open to All’ round, the latest feature introduced in this year’s First Year Junior College (FJYC) admissions in Maharashtra will display the details of all pending vacancies after four rounds of admissions, officials said. The Directorate of Education (Secondary) has clarified that the seat allotment in the special round will be purely merit-based and centralised, and the students must give separate online consent at the time of registration.
As the state-wide Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for FYJC, equivalent to Class 11, is set to begin on May 21, a large section of students were facing confusion over the new special round. Many felt that colleges would allot seats directly, risking transparency as the ‘Open to All’ round entails college-wise display of vacant seats.
This is the first year of state-wide implementation of online CAP for FYJC admissions. The process will include four regular rounds of admissions, and then there will be a special round titled ‘Open to All’.
An official from the office of the Directorate of Education (Secondary) confirmed that, apart from all those who are not admitted by round four, even others who want to try their luck to get admission to a desired college can apply in this round.
“After four regular rounds, a special round will be conducted. Students who have not been admitted still, and those who were restricted in earlier rounds can participate in this round. This round will be open for all. Admissions will be done purely based on merit, and no reservation will be applicable,” the officer said.
The officer said that a student who wishes to give online consent to participate in the round needs to again lock part 2 of the form, which includes submitting a new set of options of colleges in preference order. “As college-wise vacancies will be displayed online, students will have to carefully choose colleges to set them in preference order to apply for the special round. This includes a minimum of one and a maximum of 10 colleges. If required, we can increase the number of maximum colleges,” noted the official.
Explaining the seat allotment, the official said, “For instance, if a college has 10 vacant seats and only 10 or less than 10 candidates have applied for those seats in this round, all of them will get a seat allotment. However, if there are more than 10 applicants vying for these seats, the system will allot seats based on merit,” said the official.
