‘People of Maharashtra also want change’, says NCP chief Sharad Pawar after Congress drubs BJP in Karnataka

“I have called a meeting of my party in two days. I have called Uddhav Thackeray whom we are going to meet. NCP, Uddhav, and the Congress will meet soon to plan the next elections. I will be talking with others about the same,” the NCP chief said.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar Saturday said the Karnataka Assembly poll results have shown that people do not support turncoats.

“The huge margin between the Congress and the BJP shows that people have not only rejected turncoats but also the politics played on communal lines… The same will be repeated in Maharashtra and other states as well,” he said while addressing a press conference at YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai.

Pawar added that a meeting of the Maha Vikas Aghadi will be held soon to chart out the future path in Maharashtra.

“I have called a meeting of my party in two days. I have called Uddhav Thackeray whom we are going to meet. NCP, Uddhav, and the Congress will meet soon to plan the next elections. I will be talking with others about the same,” the NCP chief said.

He reiterated that the BJP might indulge in politics of luring MLAs of other parties even in the future, but the Karnataka results have shown that people reject this kind of politics. “People have also decided that it is not right to depend on one man (Modi) anymore,” he said.

“What I am seeing in Maharashtra today… is that people want change here as well and the state will witness change as well,” Pawar said.

Pawar further said that there was no question of any MVA constituent contesting the upcoming Assembly polls separately. “Not only us three, but we can take other smaller parties as well with us. However, I alone will not be able to take the decision but will discuss it with others,” he said. Pawar, however, added that his recent meeting with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi leader Prakash Ambedkar had nothing to do with elections.

Pawar also said that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) helped the Congress win a majority in Karnataka.
