The Maharashtra government, in its Budget for 2023-24, has proposed an outlay of Rs 738 crore for the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Department.
The state has initiated the PM Shri Schools scheme, which aims to develop nearly 15,000 schools across the country, to provide high-quality education. A budgetary allocation of Rs 1,534 crore will be made available in the next five years to develop 816 schools in Maharashtra. The scheme aims at providing experiential learning to students with focus on curriculum, pedagogy, evaluation, admissions, basic facilities, leadership qualities and inclusivity.
Also, a project worth Rs 610 crore will be implemented to modernise 75 Industrial Training Institutes. In order to make youth employable through skill development, an additional investment of Rs 2,307 crore will be made in the next three years to upgrade 500 Industrial Training Institutes in the state.
Skill training classes will be started in municipal corporations and zilla parishad schools. The training will be started in 200 schools in Mumbai from the academic year 2023-24. An outlay of Rs 2,355 crore has been proposed for the Medical Education and Drugs Department in the year 2023-24.
Shikshan Sevaks or junior teachers have a reason to celebrate as the government has decided to increase their honorarium. While the amount of scholarships given to students from Classes V to X has been increased, there has also been an increase in the scholarship amount for students from minority communities pursuing higher education.
Other announcements for the education sector include upgradation of 250 Government Tribal Ashram Schools as ‘Adarsh Ashram Schools’, and introduction of ‘Environmental Services Scheme’ in 50 secondary and higher secondary Schools in 12 districts.
