Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024: Sanjay Raut slams ‘incapable’ state Congress leaders over seat sharing

While the Sena UBT is demanding it should at least get 9 to 10 seats in the Vidarbha region, Congress leaders have opposed the demand.

In a sign of friction between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress just before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday the state Congress leaders seemed “incompetent” in taking a decision regarding the seat-sharing issue for the polls.

Speaking about the seat-sharing discussion within the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Raut said he would talk to Congress’s leaders in Delhi to finalise the issue. The Rajya Sabha MP said there were many seats on which decisions were pending and it has to be taken soon.

“There is very little time in hand and the decisions on the seat sharing must be expedited. I think the state leaders are not capable of taking any decision on seat sharing and they have to send a list of everything to Delhi. It is important that the discussion should take place with the central leadership of Congress,” Raut said.

However, State Congress president Nana Patole did not directly respond to Raut’s remarks. “If Raut is not even listening to Uddhav Thackeray then it’s his issue,” Parole said during a press conference.

The bone of contention between the Sena UBT and Congress is the Maharashtra Assembly seats in the Vidarbha region of the state on which both allies have been staking claims. While the Sena UBT is demanding it should at least get 9 to 10 seats in the Vidarbha region, Congress leaders like Patole and Vijay Wadettiwar who are from Vidarbha have opposed the demand.

Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 will be held on November 20, and the votes will be counted on November 23.

“We would like to state that Vidarbha is a part of Maharashtra and not an independent state. We gave a six-time elected seat like Ramtek to the Congress during the Lok Sabha polls. Similarly, we gave Amravati seat to Congress. I don’t think it is wrong if we hope now for seats. Our workers feel that we should get more seats in the Legislative Assembly. What is the case with Ramtek is the case with Amravati. So there is nothing wrong in it. Every party has a right to grow in every region,” Raut said further adding that he has already informed to Uddhav Thackeray about the contentious seats of Vidarbha and has also spoken with Congress’s KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala about it.
