MLA and Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar on Monday demanded the immediate relocation of two companies causing pollution in the Mahul region. He was speaking in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday.

“The problem of chemical emissions and air pollution in Mahul and its surrounding areas has been there for many years. The Bombay High Court has also taken serious notice of respiratory disorders and other diseases due to this,” he said, alleging that the local residents were suffering due to the rising pollution.

“The National Green Tribunal had held Aegis Logistics Ltd and Sealord Containers Ltd responsible. They were fined Rs 10,000 crore. However, the then environment minister did not take appropriate action in this regard,” he said, demanding that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde must look into the matter and relocate the companies at the earliest.
