The first year of the BJP-led union government with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm was marked by corruption-free governance, BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday said addressing a BJP conclave here. He also said that Modi had restored the status of the PM’s post.
“There was no importance of the prime minister during the UPA rule as all the ministers used to work as per their wish. We brought pride to the post of prime minister,” said Shah at the inaugural session of BJP state executive committee.
Regardless of criticism from the opposition, the party was satisfied about the performance of the government under Modi, Shah said adding, “The union government under Modi has taken decisions in the right direction. Its performance in the first year has been to our satisfaction, despite the criticism.”

Speaking about Modi’s frequent visits abroad, which had drawn criticism from opposition parties, the BJP national president said that “Modiji was working towards gaining respect for the country”.
He said . “In the past, few used to know when the prime minister used to go on foreign tours but now everyone gets to know about any foreign tour by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is because he gets tremendous response in foreign countries. It’s a respect that the country has gained after the new government came to power,” Shah said adding that the world has realized that India is a big player of the future.
He said the BJP had delivered on its promise of a corruption-free government.
“The opposition cannot make a single corruption allegation against the Modi government. There has been a huge improvement in governance, and nothing has been done by the government to bring us any shame,” he said.
Reacting to the Congress seeking a performance card of the BJP-led government for its first year in power, Shah asked it to give an account of its 60 years in government first. The BJP chief asked the party cadre to take the achievements of its government to each household to “counter false information” spread by the opposition.
