The Andheri police have arrested two men who, after allegedly robbing a Mira Road-based jewellery salesman, had come to Andheri to sell the stolen booty of gold ornaments worth Rs 5,80,000. One of the accused in the case is the cousin of the victim.

As per the Andheri police, they received a tip-off that Raju Narpat Singh Rajput (20) and Arun Jain (22),who had robbed the salesman, were to come to the Old Nagardas Road in Andheri (E) to sell off the stolen jewellery. Acting on the tip-off,the Andheri police formed a team and apprehended them.

During interrogation,it was revealed that the arrested men had stolen jewellery from one Vijay Kothari on Sunday. Jain being Kothari’s cousin, knew his whereabouts and hence kept a close watch on his movements. “On Sunday, the duo, pretending to be potential buyers, contacted and asked Kothari to come with the jewellery near Bhayandar station. Since his cousin was involved in the deal,Kothari went to the decided location with the jewellery,” said senior police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi.

However,on meeting Kothari, the two men stabbed him and made away with the bag containing gold. Kothari was rushed to a nearby hospital in Bhayandar where he got around 10 stitches.

“The duo has stolen 40 tolas from Kothari and everything has been recovered from them. We have also recovered a motorbike from them, which they had stolen earlier from Mira Road,” Suryavanshi said.

A case in matter has been registered with the Mira Road police.
