An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi received a bomb threat Tuesday, triggering a full emergency at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the national capital. Officials later confirmed that all passengers and crew were safe and no explosive devices were discovered during the thorough check of the aircraft.

The incident occurred on board IndiGo flight 6E 762, operated by an Airbus A321neo, which was carrying approximately 200 passengers. According to officials, a cabin crew member discovered a handwritten note with the word “BOMB” inside a lavatory shortly after takeoff.

The pilot was immediately informed and the matter was relayed to the air traffic control. Following standard safety procedures, Delhi airport authorities declared an emergency and made preparations for the flight’s arrival.

Upon landing, the plane was directed to a remote bay for isolation from other aircraft. Security agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security conducted extensive searches of the aircraft, luggage, and personal belongings of all passengers. Evacuation procedures were followed, with travellers being escorted off the plane and subjected to additional screening as a precaution.

After several hours of investigation, the threat was declared non-specific, with authorities confirming that no suspicious items were found on board.

IndiGo confirmed that it acted in line with aviation security protocols and worked to reduce inconvenience to passengers during the delay.

An IndiGo spokesperson said, “Following the established protocol, we informed the relevant authorities immediately and fully cooperated with them in carrying out the necessary security checks before the aircraft was cleared for operations. We have made all efforts to minimize inconvenience to our customers including offering them refreshments and sharing regular updates. As always, safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our topmost priorities.”

Officials highlighted that bomb threats against airlines in India have increased in recent years, although most are later confirmed to be hoaxes. Civil aviation authorities reiterated that adherence to strict security protocols is essential in such situations to safeguard passengers and prevent disruption.

Normal flight operations resumed at the Delhi airport following clearance, and passengers were able to continue their journey. An investigation into the source of the threat note is ongoing.
