An expert team will be submitting a report on the salvage possibilities of grounded vessel MV Wisdom, which ran aground off Juhu beach on Sunday after breaking from its tow and floating off, escaping a collision with the Bandra Worli Sea Link on Saturday.
Senior maritime officials have confirmed that the vessel might not be in a position to be towed till the end of south-west monsoon due to the weather and tide conditions.
The ships owners have arranged for a Powai-based agency to undertake the salvage operation and arrange for the towing towards Alang.
Earlier on Saturday, the Tug Seabulk Plover towing MV Wisdom had lost her nautical direction and grounded the vessel just three miles off Bandra Point, close to the citys water landmark, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The sea conditions had got the vessel to drift towards Juhu coastline.
We have asked for an independent team to assess the vessel and prepare a report on the conditions suitable to salvage and tow it. The team will also help us in estimating if the agency appointed by the ship owners is capable of this. The crew of the tug boat have been asked to remain in Mumbai till the inquiry is completed. The preliminary assessment should be able to decide at what stage they have erred and what is the action that needs to be taken, said DG Satish Agnihotri.
