Mumbai police arrested a 29-year-old Jalgaon resident for stealing high-end bikes parked in mall parking lots. He was known to operate most frequently in Andheri.
The accused, identified as Sunil Subhash Chaudhary, would steal bikes, take them to his native place of Muktainagar in Jalgaon and sell them there. He has 14 cases registered against him and police have now recovered two bullet bikes from him.
An officer said that a Malad resident recently filed a complaint at Bangur Nagar police station, stating his motorcycle parked in the basement parking space of InOrbit Mall, Malad West was stolen by an unknown person on October 15.
An FIR was then registered at Bangur Nagar police station, following which police began investigating the crime.
Based on CCTV footage and technical investigation, police identified Chaudhary as the accused. He was arrested from his residence in Malwani area where he was staying on rent. Two bullet bikes were seized from the accused.
An officer said that whenever he went out to steal bikes, the accused dressed well and went to parking lots of malls. He would carry a bag which had a helmet and a cutter and wore a mask on his face.
The accused would then look for high end bikes and used a cutter to open the lock. He would wear a helmet and ride to Muktainagar in Jalgaon where he parked the bikes and sold them, an official said
Over the last three years, Chaoudhary committed crimes in Amboli, Aarey, Versova, Vile Parle, Mulund and Navghar areas and a total of 14 bike theft cases have been registered against him, an official said.
