Govt committed to make agriculture climate-resilient, prepare farmers for challenges: Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the state government will have to draw a long-term plan to make agriculture climate resilient. With growing climate challenges, the farmers have incurred huge losses in atleast 30 districts. While reiterating his government’s commitment to provide all necessary help to farmers, he said, “We are adopting flexibility in panchanamas. Even drone images and mobile screen shots showing flooding in agriculture land will be considered by the administration for crop loss compensation.”

Fadnavis, who on Wednesday extensively toured Solapur (western Maharashtra) and Latur ( Marathwada) said, ” We have instructed district administration not to be rigid while condutcting panchanamas. They should show flexibility to accommodate the concerns of farmers and provide help.”

“The Cabinet on Tuesday released Rs 2,215 crore for farmers affected by the floods. More help will be offered in coming days. The government will not only help farmers for crop loss but also compensate them for houses and other amenities. The soil erosion in agriculture sector is a serious concern which will be addressed to help farmers,” said Fadnavis.

In the wake of the floods in Maharashtra, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare announced on Wednesday that all NCP ministers, MLAs and MPs will donate a month’s salary to the CM Relief Fund, as directed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

“In times of difficulties, every individual should come forward and lend a helping hand to provide relief to those adversely affected by the floods,” Tatakare said.

On Tuesday, sensing the gravity of the situation, Ajit Pawar had cancelled all his scheduled appointments and went to tour the flood-affected districts in Western Maharashtra and Marathwada region.

On Wednesday, Pawar visited Solapur, Dharashiv and Beed districts and interacted with farmers to understand the ground reality. Along side, he also held meetings with the district administration to review the situation.

The Deputy CM has directed all NCP ministers, MLAs and MPs to take up field work and reach out to farmers and people affected by the floods. They should provide all help to rehabilitate flood-hit families in their respective talukas, said Pawar.

Agriculture minister Dattatray Bharane, who is also touring the flood-hit districts, said, “The floods following the heavy rain have affected 30 districts in Maharashtra. Crops on 63 lakh acres of land have been damaged. The process of conducting panchanamas is underway.”
