WHILE THE Sena UBT has slammed Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, who was set to visit Ghana to attend the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) next week, the Speaker has put off his trip.

The 66th CPC which is being hosted by the Parliament of Ghana and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) branch in Accra, Ghana, is scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 6.

According to officials from the state Legislative officials, the Speaker had cancelled his trip early this week itself, much before the Shiv Sena (UBT) started criticising him for his trip amid the ongoing hearing of the Shiv Sena MLAs disqualification.

“The Speaker had cancelled the trip earlier it self since he has some prior commitments. The criticism started after the trip was cancelled. The cancellation of the trip was informed earlier this week itself officially and it has connection with the disqualification hearing since the next hearing on the matter is scheduled on October’s 13 after the CPC trip,”the official who doesn’t wish to be named said.

Sena-UBT MP Sanjay Raut had criticised Narwekar on Friday stating that he was going to Ghana only to further delay the Sena MLAs disqualification process.

Raut had claimed that Narwekar was not part of the delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to Ghana to attend the CPC. However, he joined the delegation to delay the disqualification hearing of Shinde-led Sena MLAs.

“The Speaker’s name is in the delegation headed by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla that is going to Ghana to advance democracy on an international platform. But what is the condition of democracy here in the state? Democracy has been murdered. For 1 year, they have been running the government completely against the Constitution, the law and the Supreme Court. As per the information I have, Narwekar’s name was not in the delegation that is scheduled to go to Ghana for CPC. But since they needed an excuse to delay the procedure of disqualification, Narwekar’s name was added in the delegation,”Raut claimed.
