A SENIOR citizen was beaten to death in Ghatkopar on Thursday night following a suspected argument with another person. The police have registered a murder case and arrested one Aman Varma (19).
Senior inspector of Ghatkopar police station Satish Jadhav said the deceased, identified as Surendra Pachadkar (65), a retired railway employee, was staying in Vikhroli. He had a habit of taking a walk to Ghatkopar station following dinner.
On Thursday night too, he took a walk till Ghatkopar station and reached the CGS lane near the railway station. As per initial probe, here he got into a fight with another person and the duo started hitting each other.
The accused allegedly took an iron rod and hit it on Pachadkar’s head, killing him and fled from the spot. When locals saw the senior citizen on the road, they rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. The Ghatkopar police was alerted about the incident which began a probe in the matter.
A source said the accused admitted that he had fight with the victim after their shoulders brushed against each other while walking on the road.
