The Gadchiroli police on Wednesday raided one of the new base camps of the Naxal cadres and seized explosive materials and detonators after an encounter in North-Eastern Maharashtra. The police officials said that the Naxalities were camping at Hiddur Village to do a recce of a newly opened outposts Wangeturi and Gardewada.
According to the police officials, the seized items includes pitthus (bags), explosive materials, wire bundles, IED battery, detonators, hooks for claymore mines, solar panels and Naxal literature etc.
“A team of 4 C60 parties led by Additional Superintendent of Police (operations) Yatish Deshmukh were sent on a search operation and they were subjected to intense firing 500 metres before Hiddur village at around 7pm,” said an officer. And as the police forces retaliated, the officials added that the Naxals escaped from the forested area.
The officials said that their team received a credible input on Wednesday that armed Naxal cadres are camping at Hiddur Village which is seven kilometers east of Wangeturi on Kanker – Narayanpur – Gadchiroli Trijunction. They had set up a base there with an aim to do a recce on newly opened outposts Wangeturi and Gardewada and to carry out subversive activities.
“On searching the area – pitthus, explosive materials, wire bundles, IED battery, detonators, hooks for claymore mines, solar panels and naxal literatures etc have been seized from the area. Anti Naxal Operations is being carried out in that area,” a senior police officer said.
