For the second consecutive day in a row, another major fire was reported in a residential high-rise building in Mumbai. A massive (level 4) fire was reported on the 42nd floor of the 45-storey R A Residency tower on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Dadar East in central Mumbai, at 8.32 pm on Thursday. No injuries have been reported in this fire.

Just 24 hours ago, on Wednesday, a fire was reported in another high-rise building in Andheri’s Lokhandwala Complex, named Shiv Shakti Building. This fire was reported on the 23rd floor of the 28-storey building, and 10 people, including four senior citizens, were injured in the fire.

In the case of the Dadar fire, the internal firefighting system of the building was not operational, according to Sanjay Manjrekar, chief fire officer (CFO) of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. The fire was confined to one house on the 42nd floor of the building. “Fortunately there were no injuries as residents vacated the floor immediately. However, the internal firefighting system was not working,” Manjrekar said.

It took the Mumbai Fire Brigade almost 7.5 hours to douse the fire, which was declared level 4 by the fire brigade at 11.10 pm on Thursday. The fire was doused by 4.10 am on Friday. The Fire Brigade pressed 16 fire engines, 2 trucks, a 90-meter hydraulic ladder and four jumbo tankers. Fifteen senior officials of the Mumbai Fire Brigade were on the spot, including the CFO, two deputy CFOs, three deputy FOs, four additional deputy fire officers and five senior station officers. Eight station officers were also on the spot.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has planned an inspection of the site on Friday.
