The Mumbai police Tuesday registered an FIR against an unidentified person for allegedly threatening to kill Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The accused, during an interview with a news channel, was alleged to have issued threats to Fadnavis.
Apart from this person, the police also booked one another for hate speech for uploading the threat video on Facebook.
An officer said the FIR was registered at the Santacruz police station based on a complaint by social worker and resident of the vicinity Akshay Panvelkar (32).
Panvelkar, a Shiv Sena associate, came across the video on Facebook, after which he gave a written complaint to the police.
In the video, the accused allegedly abused the senior BJP leader and also said he will bury him six feet under. As per the complaint, the video was uploaded on Facebook by one Yogesh Sawant. An officer said Sawant was booked along with the person who allegedly threatened to kill deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in the interview.
An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 500 (defamation), 505(3) (statements containing public mischief), 506(2) (threat), 34 (common intention) and 153-A (promoting enmity between groups). An officer said that they were identifying the accused, after which they will soon be placed under arrest.
