To commemorate the 77th anniversary of India’s Independence, the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha honoured the families of 15 Army jawans who sacrificed their lives during various operations across the country. Each family received a cash award of Rs 2 lakh and household mementoes valued at Rs 50,000.
“The Sabha has been honoring the families of fallen heroes on August 15 and wounded jawans on January 26 every year,” said Dr V Shankar, president of the sabha.
The Sabha also conferred the “Shanmukha Shaurya Ratna” award on Lt Gen Dr V Ravishankar, VSM (Retd.), who retired from the Army Medical College. Dr Ravishankar previously commanded the prestigious 1000-bed Command Hospital in Pune, affiliated to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC).
Lt Gen Pawan Chadha, General Officer Commanding Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa area, presided over the ceremony, while Lt Gen HS Kahlon (Retd.) presented the awards and honored the families of the jawans.
