Facing hurdles in linking rail tracks at Santacruz and Mahim, WR seeks CM help

The WR has approached Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resolve the issue.

To avoid objections of religious communities, politicians in Mumbai are unwilling to allow the Western Railway to connect a stretch of already laid railway tracks between Mahim and Santacruz stations. If operational it can bring back the desired punctuality of Western railway local trains.

Fed up with the non-functional 5th line between Mahim and Santacruz stations, the WR has approached Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resolve the issue.

A makeshift pathway across the 5th line has been created to go to the burial ground and crematorium near the tracks. This pathway is in addition to a proper route created along the level crossing by the administration.

“We hope that CM will take note of this matter as this is related for benefit of commuters of WR. If this fifth line is fully operational   between Borivali to Mumbai central, minimum 6 additional services on up and down directions may be run in peak hours. And there will be saving of 15 to 20 minutes,’’ said a senior official on condition of anonymity.

The administration wants to shut down the makeshift pathway to take advantage of the additional track and run more services. WR has spent Rs 11 crore on construction of the line  but due to political pressure it cannot be used.
