Ensure power supply for exams: HC to SSC Board

The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the state SSC Board to ensure that there are alternative power sources available for all the exam centres conducting Standard 10 and 12 exams.

The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the state SSC Board to ensure that there are alternative power sources available for all the exam centres conducting Standard 10 and 12 exams.

A division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice D Y Chandrachud has directed the Board to file a report in this regard within two weeks.

The court was hearing a petition filed by a Navi Mumbai- based social activist Vishnu Gawli who had moved a PIL last year complaining that because of the power shortage in the state, lakhs of students had to take their board exams during power cuts.

The court had then asked power-supplying companies and the State Education Department to find a solution to this. After nothing was done in the matter,Gawli moved a fresh application before the court, alleging that nothing had been done in the past 11 months even with Standard 12 exams already under way.

The High Court has now cautioned that if alternate arrangements are not made for uninterrupted power supply to the exam centres, contempt proceedings will be initiated.
