A 26-year-old doctor at KEM Hospital in Mumbai was allegedly stabbed and assaulted by his girlfriend’s brother and his friends outside the hospital premises on Wednesday, the police said. An attempt to murder case has been lodged against three accused who are on the run, the police added.
According to the police, the complainant, who stays in Nalasopara with his family, completed his MBBS in 2023 from abroad and returned to India to practice. He joined KEM Hospital a few months ago as a house officer, and later became involved with a 23-year-old perfusionist, the police said.
Around 10.30 am on Wednesday, the woman’s brother and his two friends visited the hospital and met the doctor. According to the police, the woman’s brother began insisting that he come to his residence in Sewri to sort out an issue between him and his sister. The doctor replied that the woman’s number had been switched off since morning, and that he would decide whether to visit only after speaking to her, as per the First Information Report (FIR).
The accused then allegedly compelled the doctor to step outside the hospital. When he refused to travel with them to Sewri, they allegedly got angry and started abusing, threatening and beating him. As per the FIR, the woman’s brother removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the doctor’s back and left hand. The doctor screamed for help, and when people gathered, the accused fled from the spot, the police said.
The doctor was brought to KEM Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. The police were alerted, following which a team from the Bhoiwada police station visited the spot and recorded the doctor’s statement.
A case has been registered under sections 109 ( attempt to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 351 (criminal intimidation as threatening someone to create fear for their safety), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“Teams have been formed and they are searching for the accused,” a police officer at Bhoiwada police station said.
