The special PMLA court remanded two contractual officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), arrested for allegedly taking bribes in order to reveal details of the central agency’s probe against an accused in a money laundering case, to ED custody till March 28.

The two staffers, Vishal Kudekar and Yogesh Waghule, were allegedly paid to inform the accused on witnesses summoned. They also allegedly supply investigation documents.

As per the agency, the staffers were paid Rs 13,000 by associate Bablu Sonkar of accused Amar Mulchandani, who is the former chairman of Seva Vikas Bank.

The ED has claimed Mulchandani chaired a committee that sanctioned loans to an educational trust without assessing its creditworthiness and ability to repay.

The prosecution said the trust defaulted on repayment of loan of Rs 11 crore by mortgaging already sold properties as collateral, resulting in losses to the bank.

Prosecutor Kavita Patil told the court that Kudekar gave Rs 2,500 received from Sonkar to Waghule for providing probe documents. The agency added Sonkar was a cohort of Mulchandani and others and had acted on their directions.
