Court rejects Jigna Vora’s discharge plea

In January,Vora had moved the discharge application, claiming that she was wrongly implicated in the case.

A Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) court Tuesday rejected a discharge application filed by journalist Jigna Vora,an accused in the murder of senior journalist J Dey. In January,Vora had moved the discharge application, claiming that she was wrongly implicated in the case.

The prosecution, however, had challenged the application claiming that the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch had enough evidence to prosecute her and other accused.

Vora, employed with an English daily, was arrested in November 2011 and was in jail for seven months. She was accused of aiding fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan, who had ordered Dey’s murder because he was allegedly upset over a few articles written by him.
