The Thane sessions court hearing the Sandhya Singh murder case on Wednesday rejected the Crime Branchs application to conduct narco analysis, brain mapping and lie detector tests on her son Raghuveer.
Earlier,Raghuveer had agreed to undergo brain mapping and lie detector tests provided some of his conditions are fulfilled. However, the court Wednesday ruled that if he agrees to undergo the tests,he has to undergo all three. Or,he can exercise his choice and refuse,it added. The court rejected the Crime Branchs application following Raghuveers refusal.
Meanwhile, the deceaseds husband Jaiprakash Tuesday said he is not suspicious of their sons involvement in the murder. This claim comes after Mumbai Police Crime Branch said Jaiprakash,in a police statement Monday, had expresssed suspicion over Raghuveers role in the murder.
I had told the Crime Branch that I was suspicious. However,I was later assured that neither Raghuveer nor his friends was involved in the crime after the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Police conducted cross-questioning,movement verification, spot verification and witness examination, said Jaiprakash.
The police are simply chasing my son because they have nothing else to go on about. It is true that my son used drugs. But he was only an occassional and experimental user. He has been in Indore with me since March and he has not touched drugs at all, he added. Raghuveer also denied the charges levelled against him. Speaking to Newsline,he said Sandhya and he often argued. However,he would not murder his mother because of arguments,he added.
However, the Crime Branchs bone of contention till date remains that Raghuveers statements about Sandhyas whereabouts varied from one person to the other after she went missing.
It is true that I told my sister that my mother was sleeping in the bedroom after taking a sedative even after she went missing. However,I said that only because my sisters exams were going on and I did not want to worry her. Also,I had offered my mother a lift the day she went missing. She had told me that she was going to her brothers place in Juhu. And that is what I told people when they asked me of her whereabouts that day, he said.
Raghuveer confirmed that there was a party in his house the day that Sandhya went missing. As it was planned much earlier, they did not cancel it,he said. Also,he added, the father-son duo were trying to find out if Sandhya had gone to her relatives place in Kolkata or New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch Monday quizzed Jaiprakash about the jewellery that reportedly went missing the same day as Sandhya. I initially thought that the jewellery was worth Rs 25 lakh. But when her two bank lockers were opened,I spoke to her sisters and realised that more jewellery and cash might be missing, and hence gave the police an updated list, he said.
