Elgaar Parishad case: Court allows Anand Teltumbde to go to Karnataka to receive award

Teltumbde filed an application on Monday before the court informing it that the Karnataka government had announced that he has been chosen for the 'Basava Rashtriya Puraskar', recognising individuals in the field of literature, social justice and harmony.

Academician Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Elgaar Parishad case, has been permitted by a special court on Tuesday to travel to Bengaluru to receive an award from the government of Karnataka.

Teltumbde filed an application on Monday before the court informing it that the Karnataka government had announced that he has been chosen for the ‘Basava Rashtriya Puraskar’, recognising individuals in the field of literature, social justice and harmony. The plea had attached the invitation from the government to remain present at the award ceremony on Wednesday in Bengaluru, to be given by the Chief Minister.

Special Judge Rajesh Katariya allowed the plea, permitting Teltumbde to travel to Bengaluru on January 31 to February 1. It directed Teltumbde to furnish details of his travel and local address and contact details where he will be staying. Teltumbde was arrested on April 14, 2020 by the National Investigation Agency.
