Complaint against Catholic forum

The police have got three letters, urging them to investigate and verify the claims allegedly made by the Catholic Secular Forum in an email to its members.

The police have got three letters, urging them to investigate and verify the claims allegedly made by the Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) in an email to its members. The alleged email had urged members to guard against ‘fundamentalist forces which were planning to infiltrate Churches… and then pass on information attained to extremist organisations’.

In the letters, sent to senior police inspectors of Pydhonie,JJ Marg and Vakola police stations, the complainants accused the forum of trying to spread communal disharmony. While the letters to Pydhonie and J J Marg police have been sent by Muslims, the one sent to Vakola police has been sent by a Christian, who termed the forum’s claims absurd.

Police said they had got the letters but had not filed cases. CSF general secretary Joseph Dias said the allegations were baseless. “Through the email,we have urged churches to be careful and record ceremonies so that no one takes objection later. We share good relations with all communities.”
