The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have booked self-proclaimed Hindu rights activist Kajal Shingala alias Kajal Hindustani for a communal speech targeting members of a particular community, officials said.
Kajal, who is popular on social media for her provocative speeches, allegedly delivered a speech that incited hatred and communal tension between two religious groups at a rally taken out by the Sakal Hindu Samaj on February 26 in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
The police at Vashi station Sunday registered a case against Kajal based on the complaint of activist Neela Limaye, on behalf of Salokha Samiti.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), Kajal, during the morcha, referred to vegetable and fruit vendors at the market, and said, “Abdul (referring to a community), if you can listen, note that my Hindu brother is boycotting you.”
People who participated in the rally also shouted slogans and carried posters with communal messages, alleged the complainant.
Kajal Hindustani was booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 153B (imputations and assertions prejudicial to national integration), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In another case, Kajal was arrested on April 9 in Gujarat for allegedly making a hate speech at Una town in Gir Somnath district during Ram Navami celebrations.
She had allegedly given a speech at a public meeting organised by Shree Ramkrushna Janmotsava Samiti, Una, in Tower Chowk as part of the Ram Navami celebrations on March 30. After this, a riot broke out in the region. Kajal got bail in the case on April 13.
