A day after a fatal blaze in a cloud kitchen at Kandivali east caused grievous burns to seven people, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are set to inspect a similar cloud kitchen operated by the owners of the kitchen that caught fire.
Speaking to The Indian Express, chief fire officer Ravindra Ambulgekar said the MFB has initiated an investigation to identify the cause of the fire.
“The entire premises is being inspected along with another cloud kitchen which is located nearby. We will cross check all the paperwork that they have in place and forward it to the civic ward office. If there is any illegality, then the ward office will shut it down,” Ambulgekar told The Indian Express.
Meanwhile, fire officers also maintained that the kitchen was being operated without any fire NOC. A fire official said that earlier, notices were sent to the owners. However, no reply came from them.
When Express contacted the owners, they remained unresponsive.
On Wednesday morning, a fire broke out at a cloud kitchen in the Akurli area of Mumbai’s Kandivali east. Of the seven people injured, two of them suffered 90 per cent burn injuries and are currently under treatmemt. The rest of the victims sustained injuries between 50 and 70 per cent.
Local residents and eye witnesses said the cloud kitchen had seven employees, six of whom were women. One of the women was the owner of the kitchen while the remaining five were ancillary workers, while the man was the Maharaja or the head cook.
