City round-up: Kashyap is Rangdajied coach

Former India footballer Santosh Kashyap has been appointed as the head coach of newly promoted I-League club side Rangdajied United.

Former India footballer Santosh Kashyap has been appointed as the head coach of newly promoted I-League club side Rangdajied United. Rangdajied United,which has a strong support base in Shillong,will join Shillong Lajong FC as the second team from the north east. Kashyap was earlier coach of Mumbai-based ONGC FC — he guided them to a creditable ninth position in the 6th I-league,with 31 points from 26 matches. The 47-year-old Kashyap is an AFC ‘A’ qualified football coach who started his managerial career with Mahindra youth team and then went on to become coach of Air India FC and Mohun Bagan.

Catholic Gym rout Tata Power

A charged up Catholic Gymkhana outplayed Tata Power 5-1 in a Third Division match of the Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. (MHAL) League –13,at the MHAL Stadium,Churchgate. The star for Catholic Gym was Carl Patel who hit the target twice,while Robin Fernandes,Gavin Vandrine and Sheldon Fernandes struck one each. Tata Power reduced the margin through Godfrey D.

In a fourth Division encounter,Ayush More scored a fine hat-trick to steer Borivali Stallions to a narrow 3-2 win against Mumbai Wonders. Sandeep Patel got both the goals for the losers.

Later in another match of the same division,Blue Dragon brooked little opposition from Ajju Academy as they romped to a facile 9-3 victory. Dereyk Murzello was at his scoring best slamming home five goals,Grenville Murzelho chipped in with two while Joywin Fernandes and Julian John added one each. For Ajju Acadmey the goals came through the Santosh Patil’s brace and Naresh S.

Div-III: Catholic Gymkhana 5 (Carl Patel 2,Robin Fernandes,Gavin Vandrine,Sheldon Fernandes) beat Tata Power 1 (Godfrey D).

Verma nets brace for Young XI

Rohit Verma’s brace enabled Young XI record a 3-0 win against K.W. Stars in the opening Division One match of the 10th edition of the Bandra West Football League 2013 at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao Municipal Grounds,Bandra. Clint Leembruggen netted the third goal for the winners. Earlier in a Division IV encounter,A.K. Chimbai SC overcame Somlands S.C. by the odd goal in three. Nazereth Uttankar struck for Chimbai in the early stages of the match with Daniel Samuel finding the equalizer for Somlands minutes before the half time whistle. Late in the second half of play Subodh Khandagle headed in the winner for Chimbai. A total of 14 teams from Bandra West are participating in the Premier League and 10 teams are placed in Division One,all comprising of residents from Bandra West only.

Kanchan to lead state team

Yogesh Kanchan from State Bank of India will lead Maharashtra State Masters Athletic Men’s team in the 34th National Masters Athletic Championship to be held at Bangalore from June 27 to July 1. He will be taking part in the high jump event. These championships will also be the selection trials to pick the Indian team for the forthcoming world masters athletics championships to be held at Porto Alegre,Brazil,from October 15 to October 25.
