The Centre is trying to control non-BJP ruled states, thus jeopardising the federal structure of India, and to achieve its poitical agenda, the BJP-led government at the Centre is misusing Niti Ayog, bureaucracy and central investigative agencies, according to Aam Admi Party ( MP) Raghav Chadha.
Speaking at the Loksamvad event organised by Marathi daily Loksatta of The Indian Express Group on Wednesday, Chadha said, “In the name of economic development, it wants complete control on Mumbai. Mumbai’s industrial and economic development will be determined and driven by the Centre or Niti Ayog. And state government will have to strictly adhere to Centre’s plans. This became evident at a meeting in Mumbai where Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam made presentation before the CM Eknath Shinde, Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Dy CM Ajit Pawar.”
Adding that similar plans are being made for Surat, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam, Chadda said it amounts to undermining the role of the elected state government.
“The Centre’s ordinance in Delhi was a draconian step to curb the rights of the elected government. Even after the Supreme Court orders centre bulldozed their legislation in Parliament to divest the rights of Delhi government lead by CM Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP lead government is working systematically to dilute the powers of elected state government. Centralisation of power is a threat to democracy,” added Chadha.
Citing the case of Punjab, he said the governor threatened to impose President’s rule there “just because CM Bhagwant Mann did not respond to the letters”.
“Throughout the country there is a sense of 1977 like Emergency atmosphere. The Supreme Court verdict is blatantly overruled,” he said.
