A mobile alert received by a man from CCTV cameras installed at his second house in the middle of the night helped him bust a robbery attempt at Chembur on Saturday night. The Chembur police nabbed the robber from the spot and registered an FIR against him.
As per the complaint given by a 72-year-old man, he stays in one house during the day and goes to sleep in another house he had in Chembur. On Saturday, he locked his house at Sarvodaya Estate in Chembur around 6pm and left for his postal colony residence in Chembur. A CCTV camera is installed at the Sarvodaya Estate residence through which his son keeps an eye on it.
On Sunday at around 5.45 am, his son woke up after he received an alert on his phone from the CCTV cameras installed at the house as it detected movement. Soon, the family members went to the house and found the window grill of the kitchen partially broken. He then put the key to open the lock, but when the door did not open, they realized that the door was locked from inside and the thief was inside the house.
The family then called up the police and the fire brigade to break open the house. As the police team entered, they found the accused Nikhil Kamble, a Vashi Naka resident, in the house. When they inspected the house, all the furniture in the house was in disarray. Kamble was taken to the police station and the police registered an FIR against him.
