CBI arrests two CGST officers for accepting bribe of Rs 25,000

The CBI arrested CGST superintendent Vikram and inspector Lav Kumar Chittoria from the Santacruz Division on bribery charges.

The CBI has arrested two CGST officials from Mumbai’s Santacruz Division for allegedly taking a ₹25,000 bribe from a businessman for GST registration.The officers were caught red-handed during a CBI trap at the CGST West Mumbai office.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested two officials of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Santacruz Division, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.

According to the CBI, the arrested accused were identified as CGST superintendent Vikram  and inspector Lav Kumar Chittoria.
The complainant, a Mumbai resident, runs a textile business and had applied online for GST registration on September 24, officials said.
During an inspection, Lav Kumar allegedly demanded the bribe for himself and his superior officer. When the complainant did not heed, Kumar allegedly threatened that his GST registration certificate would not be issued.

The complainant then approached the CBI and registered a complaint. The agency verified the facts, laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 25,000 at the CGST West Mumbai Office on Wednesday.
